In a groundbreaking achievement for both the Kannada film industry and the world of cinema, a temple priest from Bengaluru has produced what is being hailed as the first full-length feature film entirely generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Titled "Love You," this 95-minute Kannada movie, created by Narasimha Murthy, has stunned the film fraternity with its innovative approach and minimal budget.

Key Highlights:

  • World's First AI Feature Film: "Love You" marks a significant milestone as the first known full-length film crafted entirely using AI technology.
  • Directed by a Bengaluru Priest: Narasimha Murthy, a priest from Siddehalli near Bengaluru, took on the roles of producer and director for this unique project.
  • Minimal Budget, Maximum Innovation: The entire film was produced on a budget of just ₹10 lakh (approximately £9,500), with the majority of the funds allocated to software licensing for around 30 different AI tools.
  • Two-Person Crew: Murthy collaborated with Nuthan, a graphic designer who transitioned into an AI technician, to bring the film to life without a traditional cast or crew.
  • U/A Certified: Despite its unconventional production, "Love You" has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, making it eligible for theatrical release.
  • 12 AI-Generated Songs: The film features 12 original songs, with lyrics and dialogues penned by Murthy and the music composed by AI.
  • Technical Limitations Acknowledged: While a revolutionary effort, the creators have acknowledged certain limitations in the AI-generated content, including inconsistencies in character features, challenges in creating nuanced emotional expressions, and imperfect lip-syncing.
  • Future AI Film Projects: Murthy and Nuthan are already working on two more AI-driven films based on historical figures: Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, and the ancient king Immadi Pulikeshi.

Impact and Future of AI in Cinema:

This pioneering project opens up new possibilities for low-budget filmmaking and the integration of AI in creative storytelling. While "Love You" may have its technical shortcomings, it serves as a testament to the rapidly evolving capabilities of artificial intelligence and its potential to reshape the future of cinema, particularly in regional film industries. The film's release will be a significant moment in understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI in long-form cinematic narratives.
