Anthropic has rolled out INR pricing for its Claude AI chatbot as it prepares to expand in one of the fastest growing AI markets across the world.
The company has made it possible for users to view local pricing for subscription plans of the Claude bot on its website and mobile application interface for selected users. Nonetheless, the Claude AI chatbot is yet to incorporate support for UPI payment method which ChatGPT has included.
This change was needed for a while now as users were required to make payments in dollars and incur conversion costs as well.
As per the company, India is now its biggest market outside the United States with 5.8 percent share of global Claude users. With the new pricing, Claude Pro is offered for ₹2,000 monthly with annual billing options. The Claude Max plans start from ₹11,999 monthly, while Claude Team subscription plans are priced starting from ₹2,399 per user every month. The organization states that this pricing comes with all necessary applicable taxes included, although pricing can be slightly different on its website and mobile applications.
In the past months, Anthropic has started to grow in India opening an office in Bengaluru, appointing Irina Ghose, who was a former managing director of Microsoft India, to lead the India operations, and partnering with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services to facilitate the adoption of enterprise AI.
India has become an important market for AI companies due to the big community of developers and increasing demands for AI tools. However, the conversion of free users to paying subscribers proves to be difficult due to the price-sensitive nature of the Indian market.
OpenAI has offered INR pricing and UPI payment methods for ChatGPT, and Google, Microsoft, and many other AI organizations keep growing in India.
